A must go, must know place for everyone moving to Montgomery. One of the few places you can rely on (to be open when the city is dead) you will always find something to appreciate and enjoy whether it's on the live music, the southern hospitality of other customers, or the attention and conversation you witness when sitting at a local true dive bar.

5-Star #&HOLE So, you want to know about the "1048 Jazz & Blues" bar in Montgomery—where do I even begin? Picture this: it's a Sunday night, and my wife and I decide to venture out, lured by the promise of live jazz or blues. We arrive, and surprise! No live music. But fear not, because behind the bar stands Nikki, the bartender, who DJ'd from a unique collection of music on her cellphone. Now, let's talk about the venue itself. If you've ever wondered what it feels like to drink inside a building that should've been condemned during the Reagan administration, 1048 Jazz & Blues is your spot. The place has the ambiance of a dilapidated Mexican cantina, minus the tacos, and with a dash of "should I have gotten a tetanus shot before coming here?" The floors creak like they're auditioning for a horror movie, and the uneven surfaces make you question whether it's the building or the five beers you just downed. Spoiler: it's the building. Venturing into the bathroom is like stepping into a time machine set to "abandoned gas station circa 1973." At first glance, you might think they're mid-renovation. Nope. That's just the decor—a masterclass in "shabby chic" without the chic. The fixtures are hanging on for dear life, and the whole setup screams, "We dare you to complain." But here's the kicker: despite its "charmingly rustic" appearance, the place was buzzing with an eclectic mix of patrons. On a Sunday night, no less! From jazz aficionados to college students who wandered in accidentally, everyone was there, and everyone was weirdly welcoming. It's like the Island of Misfit Toys decided to open a bar, and honestly, it works. The drink prices are so reasonable you'd think they were stuck in a 1990s time warp, and the service—thanks to the ever-delightful Nikki—is top-notch. The photos online paint 1048 Jazz & Blues as this swanky jazz club where you'd expect to see a saxophonist wailing under a spotlight. In reality, it's more like your uncle's old house that he converted into a bar after his third divorce. The owner even made an appearance, strutting around like he's the king of this crumbling castle. You have to admire the audacity. Despite all this, there's a certain allure to the place. It's unpretentious to the point of parody. Spill a drink? Who cares! The floor's seen worse. It's the kind of dive where you can let loose without the fear of judgment. Part of me wants to call up John Taffer from "Bar Rescue" and beg him to overhaul the joint. Not for the owner's sake, but for the patrons and, of course, the saintly Nikki. They deserve a palace, not a shack. But then again, would it lose its gritty charm? Probably. And that's the paradox of 1048 Jazz & Blues: it's a total dump, but it's our dump. So, if you're in Montgomery and looking for a night out that's equal parts bewildering and delightful, swing by 1048 Jazz & Blues. Just don't forget your sense of humor.

When someone from Alabama tells you that it’s “The BEST Worst Experience of your trip” you need to check this place out! I was told by multiple people that it was a “Dive Bar” which it is but Doug has a place where the regulars and the out of towners can come to and relax and have a great time! If you get a chance to stop by ask for Nikki! She is amazing and loves what she does to support her kids! I loved that! Thank you for making our experience an excellent one ! Nikki if you want to chat . Message me ! Aaron !

We were staying in Montgomery on a weeknight and wanted to find some live music. Downtown was dead so we jumped on the web and picked a spot to try... It was the exact experience we were looking for. An awesome little dive bar with local people and music that stays open very late... Great music, friendly bartending, pool tables, and we stayed until close talking and debating with the owner around a fire outside... A great night!

Nice mesenteric bar. Had a good time with some friends. Definitely is a dive but they have jungle juice. Proceed with caution but have fun. Outlets work well for charging your phone.
